Become friends with your machine and build confidence through experience

To prepare you for the sewing workshops, it's important that you know your way around a sewing machine... so here is the perfect introductory so that we can make sure everyone is at a similar starting point when the other classes begin

This class is designed to be booked in conjunction with one of the other longer workshops offered, to ensure you have an understanding of the machine to be able to start the projects

It's ideal for you to bring along your own machine from home for this class so that we can set you up for success when you go home. If however, you do not have a machine you are able to use one of Ariane's. Please note that there is a limited number of machines and you will need to advise this is the case at the time of booking in case they are already scheduled to be used by other classmates

Key Take away's /Learnings from the class:

Threading the machine, winding bobbins, changing needles and feet

Sewing in straight lines

Sewing around curves and zigzags

Problem-solving when the tensions become wrong

The reason behind the different stitches on the machine

Backstitch and how to finish stitches so they don’t come undone

Seam allowances

Dot tacks and Bar Tacks - how to do them on a domestic machine

What to bring with you:

Ideally: Your sewing machine, machine pedal, feet, at least 2 bobbins, threads and machine specific needles. The aim is to enable you to be able to create at home

If you do not have your own sewing machine - you are welcome to use one of Ariane's - the number of these is limited, so please advise at the time of booking if you will need one so that the class numbers can be arranged correctly - thank you

What would you receive:

Confidence in being able to use a sewing machine

Understanding of different stitches and when you make use of them

Experience sewing straight, curved and zigzag lines

Knowledge of what to do when things go wrong

Sizing

Ariane takes great pride in well-fitting garments, ones that make you feel comfortable in your own skin - and with 17+ years of pattern making experience, we are confident you'll feel that way in your new pieces.

That Ariane often uses conscious grading* when grading her garment patterns into different sizes. Taking the time to consider if the standard +0.6mm increase on the bum cover of a bikini (for example) would be enough, or if our more curvier clients would be more comfortable with more cover? It takes time to perfect, and its time she feels is important to spend on her garments. For that reason, if two friends in a S and a XL bought the same garment, they may fit there bodies differently, to reflect their individually body shapes

Most of the fabric for our Swimwear and Sparkles has 4 way stretch which means that it shapes itself around the curves of your body beautifully. As we use so many different fabrics, we adjust the fit of patterns to ensure that a S/M/L etc all stay as true to size as possible, and recommend that you order swimwear based on your knicker and bra band size

Testimonials

I’m so glad I got this bikini top it’s like the holy grail - it stays on in the waves, my kids can pull at it, and a surprise bonus is super supportive and I feel super sexy wearing it. Absolutely LOVE it - thank you!

Nicole Jago

It was exactly what i was looking for in terms of festival wear that was modest for my curvy body type. The Cara Tops are great because they accommodate larger sizes while still seating the girls nicely.
The Jaimee shorts are cute and cheeky, and good for someone who doesn't want to show too much tummy but a bit of cheeky booty.
Overall, a really cute good quality set.
